We see it and hear it every year: BUT I ALWAYS BUY MY KIDS AN EASTER BASKET!
Yes, and we also know why... you LOVE jelly beans and Peeps. This reasoning is the core of morbid obesity. Delusion as to WHO the candy is really for. It's the same thing at Halloween, Christmas, Birthdays and every holiday or family gathering. We hear you yell ITS OUR TRADITION! You don't know us. You don't know me!
With all due respect, we DO know you. We have been listening to over a million of you for almost 20 years come up with excuses why you MUST have fattening foods at your fingertips that somehow always find their way into your mouth. It happened before you had bariatric surgery and we are trying to stop it from happening AFTER surgery by bluntly pointing it out. Do yourself a favor and allow what we are saying to sink in.
Here is the deal.
No one over the age of 7, needs an Easter basket. If your kids are 16 and 21 we see through your ruse. The Easter candy is for YOU. We get it. We did it too.
Under age 7, make sure your fat brain knows some limitations and buys a small amount of candy APPROPRIATE for a small child. Buy a gold wrapped Lindt chocolate bunny. ONE of them. Be One and Done. Take up some space in the basket you MUST provide with a stuffed animal or pretty pastel socks, or some kicks, for older girls I'd like to suggest starting a Swarovski crystal animal collection. You can find them on eBay if you look for bargains. They'll cherish them forever! Look at that adorable hedgehog.
Even for little ones, START NEW NON CANDY TRADITIONS so they don't grow up to be morbidly obese. Fill plastic eggs with dollar bills and hide them around the house or your yard. Put a larger bill in one egg or a ticket for a grand prize. Then ask them if they miss jelly beans? I bet they dont.
As for your Easter dinner. There is no need for TEN side dishes and high fat foods that are just not smart for you to serve. Make some beautiful deviled eggs out of the pink pickled eggs in our recipe section, a small glazed ham, some baked plain sweet potatoes you serve with a butter pat, a baby lettuce salad tossed with our mouthwatering Roasted Strawberry Balsamic dressing and our no sugar Carrot Cake or No Bake Strawberry Pie for dessert.
No one will miss anything you have served in other years. People are very forgiving about food traditions IF what you are serving is delicious.
Ive never had anyone get mad because I skipped making the scalloped potatoes with heavy cream, cream cheese and cheese or the sweet potatoes were not crusted with marshmallows and brown sugar... NOT ONE TIME.
An important part of your recovery is understanding that you had a serious food problem in that you didnt know when to put on the brakes or STOP. A life of overkill and indulgence that nearly KILLED US, has to stop at some point. To maintain some of our weights we were consuming over 5000 calories a DAY. Some of us packed in double that during gaining phases in life. IF you do not understand CALORIES and which foods are highest in calories, I beg you to do a little research. Its FAT AND SUGAR AND PROCESSED FOODS. High fructose corn syrup is in many packaged foods, to create flavor and to keep it moist for months on a shelf.
Understand it was killing you and even though you lost 100 pounds with surgery, high fructose corn syrup will still kill you if you don't eat from a different food choice list. Its EASY to gain back 50 plus pounds in a blink of a year.
This is my 21st Easter... some of our Admins are right behind me, so we all have a pretty good handle on it. I buy my husband a Lindt chocolate bunny that I do not touch. It makes him smile and he loves to nibble it. See people who are not morbidly obese eat small amount of candy occasionally and don't even finish it. On Easter Sunday, I make a tee time so we are out on the mountain with lots of exercise and fresh air. Dinner is Deviled Eggs, Lamb Chops, small plated salads, a sweet potato and I always make my wonderful Carrot Cake for dessert.
We are here to answer your Easter questions and help you navigate this so its NOT a food fest. Ask away!

If you've been doing our March Inspire Diet Challenge you know that one of your daily tasks on each check-in is to weigh yourself.
There's a few reasons we've discussed before, and on our website (this article: https://www.bariatriceating.com/blogs/bariatric-advice-and-support/the-scale-friend-or-enemy ) but there's a bigger reason than the truly important getting to know your body.
It's to make peace with what your MIND seems to think will happen when you start losing weight again.
You see one of the biggest things that no one talks about, and trips EVERYONE up is that during our initial stages as a post op we are dropping a pond or more DAILY. Now we've said this before and we'll say it again, no matter how hard you are working that first year it's not YOU it's the surgery. People here who couldn't get to goal, and those to got to goal and regained can attest to the fact that your Surgery is driving the bus for at least the firs year, and if you're lucky the first year and a half.
So by ...
